SAFMC, MAFMC and PFMAC Fishing Closures

I was just going over the latest information from the South Atlantic Fisheries Management Council.? The SAFMC, headquartered in Charleston, South Carolina, is one of eight regional fishery management councils in the United States. They are responsible for the conservation and management of fish stocks within the federal 200-mile limit off the coasts of North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and east Florida to Key West.

Literally all grouper species and red snapper are closed to any type of fishing.? Grouper season is scheduled to reopen in April.? Red snapper is closed indefinitely.

Now I see that they are holding more "public input" meetings to look at regulating dolphin (mahi mahi), wahoo and cobia.

If they close the season on theses fish it will pretty well stop most anglers from even attempting to fish.? They continue to pursue a total bottom fishing closure in an area from Cape Canaveral, Florida north to Georgia.

The environmentalists, PETA, and others are simply sitting back and watching with great joy as this takes place.? Their anti-everything - including fishing - agenda is being accomplished without them lifting a finger.

Folks, fishing as we knew it - and as we know it now - is literally being regulated into oblivion.

Check ou the SAFMC webpage and see when public meetings are scheduled in your area.? If you want to watch a circus, watch these people as they supposedly take our comments and suggestions to heart.? In reality, they already have a plan. They are simply trying to see if anyone can shoot holes in it.? To date, not one of their conservation plans - amendments - has changed from its original form as a result of any of these meetings that I have attended.

By the way, the Mid Atlantic (MAFMC) and Pacific (PFMC) are no different.? They are shutting down fisheries in their jurisdictions just as quickly.

Here's a question for you - when will it stop?? IMHO it will stop when they have completely closed all recreational fishing and limited commercial fishing to fish farming only.? I bought a slab of grouper this last week - $16.95 a pound...
